North Kesteven District Council took action against Sharon Lesley Clarke, 24, who owns a private rented property in Akrotiri Square, Nocton.

Having not previously entered a plea, the case was heard in her absence at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 8, where she was found guilty of the two charges. The landlord from Breacon Park, Helston, Cornwall, was sentenced to a fine of £660 per charge, costs of £450 and a victim surcharge of £66. Coun Richard Wright, executive board member for enforcement, said: “We have a duty to make sure that private rented homes are safe and secure for their tenants and will not shy away from taking action where rules and regulations are not being complied with.”

North Kesteven District Council has a Safe as Houses initiative to not only protect tenants to ensure that every home is safe and healthy, but to support landlords by providing advice on the standards needed to be met.

An amnesty is taking place throughout the district where landlords who identify problems and come forward for advice to help bring their properties up to standard will not have enforcement action taken against them.
