Lincolnshire Police make enquiries into allegations over Conservative election expenses

Lincolnshire Police have announced today (May 12) that they are carrying out 'general enquiries' following allegations of irregularities in the election expenses of the Conservative Party.

The allegations that the Conservative Party breached election spending rules during last year’s General Election, and three by-elections in 2014 have been reported in the national press in recent weeks - and it is understood that at least nine police forces across the country are now investigating the claims.

A Lincolnshire Police statement released this afternoon said: ”We are aware of recent media reporting regarding allegations of irregularities in the election expenses of the Conservative Party and some of their candidates in the General Election 2015 and three by-elections in 2014.

“We can confirm that we are carrying out general enquiries, but we will not be commenting further until they are complete.”
