Make a splash for charity at Swimathon
THERE is still time to enter one of the area's biggest charity events.
As reported in the Standard a fortnight ago, the Rotary Club of Sleaford is holding its annual Swimathon at Sleaford Leisure Centre on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27.
This year it is going to be a 24-hour event for the first time and will involve people swimming, running and even spinning a top.
The Swimathon will start at 7pm on the Friday evening and continue through the night and into Saturday for a full 24 hours.
There will also be a Ke epfitathon where participants can see how many miles they can travel by walking, running, rowing or cycling in the keep fit suite at the Leisure Centre.
And a new event for this year is the Whip-and-Topathon, with a prize on offer to the person who keeps their top spinning for the longest time.
This year the Swimathon will be raising money for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, Wheel Appeal and End Polio Now.
Each of the three events is open to all ages and abilities.
Entries for the Swimathon are invited from teams of up to six swimmers to complete as many lengths of the Sleaford pool as possible in 55 minutes. Each team will be allocated one lane and, for safety reasons, only four swimmers are permitted to swim in each lane at any one time.
It is not a competition but there will be a prize for the team that averages most lengths per swimmer and another for the team that raises the most money in sponsorship.
Application forms for all three events are available from the president of the Rotary Club of Sleaford, Norry Bell, on 01529 488330 or at swimathon@star-drive.co.uk
