A newly-appointed third Archdeacon has been installed at a special service at Lincoln Cathedral on Sunday.
The Revd Dr Justine Allain Chapman was appointed in March, having been Vice Principal and Director of Practical Theology at the South East Institute for Theological Education. Justine and her family moved to Welbourn during the summer.
In addition to her ministry as an Archdeacon, Justine will have particular responsibility for deepening the faith of Christians beyond the community of the church.
After the service she will now be known as the Ven Dr Justine Allain Chapman and take her seat in the quire of the Cathedral as a member of the College of Canons.
“I am delighted and excited to be starting my new ministry as an Archdeacon, which will involve supporting clergy and volunteers across the south of the Diocese,” said Justine.
“It is great for me that I will also have a Diocese-wide responsibility for developing Christian discipleship. While I will be rooted to a particular area for part of my work, to have the opportunity to make a difference across the whole Diocese will be especially rewarding.”
The two Archdeacons already in post, the Ven Jane Sinclair (Archdeacon of Stow) and the Ven Tim Barker (Archdeacon of Lincoln), also assume overall Diocesan responsibility for the development of ministry, and church buildings respectively, in additional to their work within particular parts of the Diocese.
A title for the new Archdeaconry is yet to be confirmed, while a lengthy process of formalising the scheme is completed.
