Nick’s triathlon expertise is invaluable to London Games

SQUADRON Leader Nick Davies swapped his day job as a tactics advisor at RAF Waddington for a major role in one of the Olympic events.
Nick, 45, has been at the heart of the Olympic action as the London 2012 triathlon run and bike course leader.
Nick, who lives in Ruskington and is a keen triathlete himself, was responsible for setting up and managing the run and cycle course for both the men’s and women’s Olympic triathlon races.
The impressive triathlon course took in some of the most famous landmarks in London, including Hyde Park, Wellington Arch and Buckingham Palace.
Nick said: “As a keen triathlete the opportunity to help organise and run the Olympic triathlon was a fantastic opportunity that is unlikely to raise its head again.
“It has been a privilege to work with the triathlon team which, from volunteers to full-time staff, was probably the best in the Olympics.”
Nick’s expertise saw him involved in detailed course design, road resurfacing and traffic management. He was also called on to work with different branches of the Olympic organisation, as well as representatives of Royal Parks, Westminster Council, the Metropolitan Police and the Army.
All his hard work came to fruition on Saturday with the women’s Olympic triathlon event and yesterday (Tuesday) when the men’s event took place.
The men’s event was won by Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain, with his brother Jonny claiming the bronze medal. In the women’s event, which was won by Nicola Spirig of Switzerland, GB’s Helen Jenkins was fifth.
