Pam crowned queen of the Lioness' clubs
A LONG-serving member of Sleaford Lioness Club has become chairman of all the clubs in Britain and Ireland.
Pam Kyte of Sleaford took over as Multiple District chairman for the British Isles and Ireland Lionesses on July 1 and to celebrate, local club members arranged a surprise garden party in her honour.
She said: "I thought John (her husband) was taking me to the normal meeting at the Solo Club but he drove me here."
Mrs Kyte will have more time to spend on the role as she and John have just retired from teaching. She holds the prestigious office for two years during which she will visit the 21 clubs around the country, raising the profile of the Lioness and Lions movement and act as an advisor, visiting other clubs' regular meetings.
She explained: "Clubs have got to know they are supported, you cannot just be a figurehead, you have to be approachable."
Her chosen charity to support is the Princess Royal Trust for Young Carers as she has worked with a group of young carers in Sleaford.
She will attend conventions and meetings such as the national conference in February at Wakefield, the national convention in Belfast and the international Lions convention in Seattle (expenses paid).
Mrs Kyte said: "There are Lionnesses in many parts of the world now, so it is all part of the Lions family - but all for ladies."
There had been moves to merge Lions with Lionesses but British groups stood their ground and are now gaining recognition, finding clubs in India, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.
Pam and her husband have been members of Sleaford Lioness and Lions Clubs for 12 years and Pam has done various jobs within the national body including treasurer and vice-chairman.
She said: "Sleaford Club is growing, with 21 members, and a couple of potential new ones. It celebrates 21 years this year."
