PHOTO GALLERY - A Saturday of thrills and drama at Heckington Show

Saturday saw thrills and spills with at least a couple of spectacular crashes in the cycling races in the main ring and over 230 runners in the 10 mile road race.

There was fast action from the scurry racing and nostalgia from a First World War display featuring the re-enactors of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry on horseback and a replica of one of the first tanks to mark the centenary since its invention and use in the Battle of the Somme.

Trick riding, stunts and breath-taking horsemanship had the audience in raptures watching Atkinson’s Action Horses - often seen on film and TV including Poldark.

The crowd held their breath for a more serious reason when an air ambulance had to fly into the main ring to pick up a patient who had been taken ill on the show site.

The ensuing delay resulted in a later than billed end to the evening firework concert, but a near capacity crowd of thousands were still on their feet dancing to soundtracks by Sleaford Concert Band, blues music from vocaloist Daz Carter, a fantastic Abba tribute show by Waterloo Live and a brilliant firework finale.
