Police to target reckless pavement cyclists
POLICE are promising to take a strong stance on youths cycling recklessly on pavements after a Sleaford woman was injured by two young riders last week.
Anne Terry, 63 from St Giles Avenue in Sleaford, has advanced oesteoporosis of the spine, which means that her spine can break easily if dealt a hard blow.
She was barged aside by the two youths when walking down Nags Head Passage in Sleaford at around 5.15pm last Tuesday evening. She said she was knocked against the wall by a pair of young cyclists who came around the corner at speed, leaving her shaken and upset.
She says: "My spine is so fragile that I feared the impact would kill me, I thought to myself, there is no coming back from this."
Anne said the riders did not stop and just laughed as they rode away.
Mrs Terry was very sore and bruised, and walking became very difficult.
She describes the youths as being in their late teens or early twenties, and the rider of the bike that smashed into her had a navy coat on. She also remembers that his face and eyes were very red.
PSCO Sarah Kennedy of Sleaford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We have had one or two incidents of kids riding their bikes on the footpaths, and we are trying to crack down on this by handing out on-the-spot fines of 30 to people over 16 riding on pavements.
"I would encourage anyone who has had a similar experince to report it to us so that we can do more to combat this."
