FIVE women are preparing to turn Sleaford pink for a charity fundraiser in the New Year to raise money for cancer charities.

Kate Hopkins, Helen Worrell, Alison Hall, Ruth Hodge-Chisholm and Karen Beddoes are throwing on the pink and urging people to come and join them in a fundraising Pink Party at Sleaford Rugby Club on Saturday January 28.

After raising over £3,500 for Help for Heroes and over £4,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting black tie charity balls in previous years, this year the women are turning their attentions to two more cancer charities.

For their Pink Party, they have chosen to raise money for The Bobby Moore Fund, supporting sufferers and research for bowel cancer, and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

They chose the latter because, as Kate explained, so many people know someone who is suffering or have suffered with cancer, which has made them all determined to do their bit to help find a cure.

Kate said: “We wanted to throw a Pink Ball to do something less formal to appeal to more people.”

The event will kick off at 7.30pm at Sleaford Rugby Club, and will include a disco, buffet food and a raffle.

Several prizes for the raffle have been donated by local businesses, including jewellery donated by jeweller Keith Dolby and beauty treatments from local therapists, as well as a half hour hand-gliding experience.

The dress code is smart casual, but all guests must wear something pink to mark the occasion, even pink underpants if needs be, Kate added jokingly.

Tickets cost £15 each, and are still available by calling Helen on 07976 942304 and Alison on 07858 608416.
