A CANCER charity has received £1,000 thanks to two concerts organised by a Sleaford school.
Kesteven and Sleaford High School held two fund-raising concerts last term as part of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Sing Out appeal, which encourages people to throw festive musical events to help raise money for the charity.
The first was a MAD (music, drama and dance) concert held on October 20, where the girls were performing a variety of entertainment for the guests, including singing, drama sketches and dancing.
To add more to their fund-raising total, the school also held a Christmas Concert on December 8 with performances from the sixth form choir and soloists, as well as a rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas, encouraging the audience to join in.
The two events raised £500 each and on Friday representatives from Marie Curie came along to the school to receive a cheque for £1,000.
Head of music Lesley Amey said: “We are really chuffed that we raised so much money. We didn’t expect to make that much, everyone worked really hard.”
Stuart Wyle, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Lincolnshire, said: “We were delighted to have Kesteven and Sleaford High School join in our Sing Out event.
“We had a number of schools and choirs take part throughout Lincolnshire, holding concerts and singing during our Christmas collections.
“It was wonderful to be able to thank some of the students personally for raising £1,000 for the local Marie Curie Nurses – their generosity will provide an extra 50 hours of care.”
