Recession still biting in Lincolnshire
LINCOLNSHIRE may be on the brink of leaving the recession but there's still a lot of work to be done according to new statistics.
In a survey of over 400 Lincolnshire business, a British Chamber of Commerce Economic Survey shows that local businesses are not showing signs of growth. However, planned developments in Sleaford could buck the trend.
Ben Ellis of the Sleaford Chamber of Commerce said: "Obviously it has been a hard time for businesses and we have lost a few shops on the High Street, with Currys being the latest to announce it is to close.
"However, developments for the south and north sides of Sleaford will bring in new businesses and hopefully a few High Street names."
Countywide statistics show that, although staffing levels have remained constant, few companies have immediate plans to take on more staff.
Mr Ellis added: "There are still new businesses opening in Sleaford and taking on staff.
"There's a new restaurant opening and we were very lucky to fill the Woolworths building with The Yorkshire Trading Company.
"Although in the short term things may look bleak, in the medium to long term it's looking very good."
