After undertaking charity challenges including abseiling, zipwiring across the River Trent and skydiving, a Caythorpe reporter will be keeping her feet on the ground this time.

Sleaford Standard reporter Rachel Grafton will be doing something even more gruelling for her next fund raising venture, taking part in the Hull RunforAll 10km run in May to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her mum Anne, who died of breast cancer in 2007 aged just 52.

This will be a tough challenge for Rachel as she is, in her own words, new to running and very unfit, and attempting to get fit enough to run continuously for 10km, or six miles, will be a struggle.

She explained: “This 10k will be tough for me, but I’m doing this in memory of my mum and she’ll be in my thoughts the whole time and after everything she went through when she was having chemotherapy, this pales in comparison really.”

In order to try and get herself fit for the challenge, Rachel has joined local running group the Sleaford Striders to train properly and build herself up for the big day, and has been keeping a blog about her progress at http://rachelwrites87.wordpress.com/

She added: “I was always really bad at running at school and tended to come in last in any running races but I’m sure running with the Striders will build my stamina up to be able to run properly and pace myself, so I’m hoping to finish the run in a reasonable time.”
