Sam completes his sub-zero mountain climbing challenge

A SEVENTEEN-year-old sixth former from Carre’s Grammar School in Sleaford has just returned from a World Challenge expedition to Tanzania where he embarked, with fifteen fellow students, on a venture to climb to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Sam Wright, from Wilsford, said: “I had the hardest, but the best month of my life whilst I was out in Africa. The whole experience will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“During the trip we developed a terrific team spirit and this made the three weeks memorable. Being a member of the fastest World Challenge Team to climb Kilimanjaro was also a personal achievement.”
The young student was able to fund the trip by working part-time as well as organising cake sales, bag packs and raffles using prizes donated by local businesses around the school he attends.
He was also fortunate to have received sponsorships from various local companies, one of which was local builders’ and plumbers’ merchant, Turnbull.
“I’m extremely grateful to Turnbull’s, especially Chris Hopkins (Turnbull director) for his support and for setting the challenge of me having my photograph taken at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, in a Turnbull T-Shirt, in temperatures as low as minus thirty-five degrees!” said Sam.
Sam also wants to thank everyone who has supported his fund raising activities that have enabled him to experience such an incredible journey.
