CHILDREN at a village primary school took part in a nationwide sing-along in sign language.
The 25-strong choir of Brant Broughton School joined in the Signed 2 Sing event which is held every year to promote British Sign Language.
School choirs up and down the country sang along to the same tune using sign language and this time there was the added boost of trying to set a new Guinness World Record for having the most people doing this simultaneously. Thousands of children all over the country took part.
Headteacher Krysta Parsons said that Brant Broughton School does a lot of singing activities both at school and within the community, as well as taking part in competitions.
She said the children had been learning the signed phrases and had an independent witness to authenticate the record attempt.
Last year the school earned the gold Sing Up award in recognition of their work in promoting singing. Usually schools have to apply for bronze and silver first but the Brant Broughton School had already met all the necessary criteria.
As well as the choir, the whole school sings every day. In addition, they take part in harvest festivals, singing events in the community and singing festivals at Lincoln.
There is also a staff choir which sings for parents on occasions.
After getting the gold award, they are now working towards the platinum level and hoped that taking part in Sign 2 Sing would go towards that goal.
