Swimming club appeals for more volunteer teachers

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help one of the longest established clubs in the town.

Sleaford Swimming Club, which was formed in the 1930s, is looking for more people to volunteer their time as swimming teachers.

The club currently has around 150 members and meets on Wednesday evenings at Sleaford Leisure Centre on East Banks from 6.30pm to 8pm. It caters for swimmers of all ages, from five upwards, and all abilities, starting from the basic stage one up to the highest stage 12.

President Sue la Roche said: "We have lost some of our teachers for various reasons and so we are now looking for more volunteers to help at poolside.

"Ideally we would like about six swimming teachers to teach various levels of swimmers. They can be qualified or unqualified as we will provide full training.

"It's an excellent club with a great social life."

The club runs Learn to Swim sessions but these could be under threat if more teachers cannot be found.

Sue explained: "We run the Learn to Swim sessions with just three teachers and if one of those is on holiday we would be forced to stop the sessions until we were back up to having at least three teachers again.

"That is why it vital for more volunteers to come forward so that we can continue to offer such an important service."

If you are a swimming teacher or would like to be and can offer a some time each week to help Sleaford Swimming Club, contact Sue la Roche on 01529 302914.
