Town centre car park to go private

Thursday 9.10am - THE new owners of the Jermyn Street car park in Sleaford have announced they are to take its management out of district council hands.

Jermyn Street car park had been owned by Sleaford's Hatcher and Sons building developers but leased back to North Kesteven District Council to run as a car park.

The company opted to sell it off by auction in December to a private investor. The investor has opted to appoint Napier Parking Ltd, their Hampshire-based parking management arm, to manage the car park on their behalf.

The pay and display car park is currently operated by the district council, but their lease expires on April 1 and Napier Parking will be stepping in to operate the well used facility.

The car park which is one of the busiest and most centrally positioned in the town, is envisaged by the new owners to remain as a pay and display public car park. The new management has done away with the maximum stay of three hours and is making the car park available for all day parking for 5; parking will also be available for up to eight hours for 4. The company says it has consulted with neighbouring local businesses and the school and they have been supportive.

The new owners have spent time in the area to better understand the requirements and to meet with the district council, as it is important for the new owners that the car park remains popular and is available for local people to use.

Charges will apply 24 hours a day everyday in order to help cover the substantial investment made by the purchasers, as over time the company plans to improve lighting and install CCTV. The car park will have a fresh look on April 1 with new parking machines and signage.

Napier Parking is a member of the British Parking Associations Approved Operator Scheme which ensures the highest degrees of parking management in the industry. Napier are keen to know of any special requirements that visitors to the town or locals may have and welcome comments that can be submitted to them by email at services@napierparking.co.uk
