Lincolnshire Police Rural South PCSO Stuart Bowden, of the Grantham Neighbourhood Policing Team, put out the warning through the Lincs Alert system last night (Monday).

In it, he said: “There have been several reports of thefts and burglaries at village halls and sports & social clubs. Thieves have targeted these isolated locations often on the edge of a village with few or no properties overlooking the buildings. Cash and confectionery are taken along with any other items they consider may have some value to them.

“If you are responsible for a village hall or similar, or member of a committee maintaining one please consider the removal of items of value and ensure that any money is removed at the end of the evening, even if you consider it to be a small amount.

“Thieves will continue to target these sorts of buildings if they believe there is the chance of a profitable outcome, no matter how insignificant it maybe.”

Anyone who has seen any suspicious activity is asked to call the non-emergency telephone number 101, or 999 if the break-in is occuring at the time of report.
