Weekend collision on A17 causes chaos

TWO men are fighting for their lives in hospital after a transit van was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon just before 3pm at the Burton Pedwardine turn-off on the A17, and the road was closed for several hours as a result.

The driver of the van, believed to be from Northumberland, was airlifted to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham suffering from life-threatening head injuries.

His passenger, believed to be a 26-year-old man, has also been seriously injured.

The male driver of the Fiesta, from Basildon, was taken to the QMC by ambulance and is in a critical condition. His female passenger has been taken to Lincoln County Hospital.

It is not known where either of the passengers are from.

The road was closed for several hours and diversions were in place to control the traffic, but there were long queues following the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the vehicles prior to the incident, should call the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855 or Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting Incident 284 of June 16.
