Witness appeal to four-vehicle fatal smash on A17 Leadenham bypass

Motorists who were travelling on the A17 Leadenham Bypass on Monday morning (June 20) are being encouraged to come forward if they witnessed a four-vehicle crash in which a woman died from her injuries.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene at 10.42am when a Volvo XC90, Jaguar XF, a Peugeot Boxer (livestock carrier) and a Mercedes-Benz were in collision.

Six people were injured and two of those were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment of serious injuries.

A 70-year-old passenger in the Jaguar has since died from her injuries. Two other patients are still currently recovering in hospital.

Ewan Gell, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “If you were travelling on the A17 and witnessed this crash, it is extremely important that you get in touch.

“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the driving of the purple Volvo XC90 before the collision, which was travelling towards Newark.

A horse travelling in the Peugeot livestock carrier was also treated at the scene by a vet for an injury to its leg.
