World mourns shock death of Jacko

THE world is mourning the death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, who died last night as a result of a cardiac arrest. Jackson leaves behind millions of adoring fans and a remarkable music legacy.

His upcoming ‘This is it Tour’ in the UK was due to have started in less than two weeks time. Today ,Sleaford residents have been speaking of their memories of Jackson.

Jane Day said: “I went to the Bad tour in ‘88 and it was brilliant, I was one of the lucky people who go to see him in his prime. Obviously I was shocked when I heard the news. The second ever record I bought was Ben and I still have it now.”

Jackson, 50, was the subject of intense media coverage from a very young age when in the Jackson 5 with his brothers and never escaped the public’s eye for too long. On Thursday night it was confirmed Jackson had died at UCLA hospital two hours after paramedics answered an emergency call.

Jackson, who had a history of health problems, had been due to stage a series of 50 comeback concerts at the O2 arena, London beginning on July 13.

Andrew Spoors was one of the thousands of fans due to attend the concerts. He said: “I can’t believe it. I heard the news late last night and knew it was only two months until I was due to see him on stage.

“It had always been one of my dreams to see him do the moonwalk and sing ‘Billie Jean’ but now I will never have the pleasure of seeing him. My all time favourite song was ‘Man in the Mirror’ because I think it was his message to send to the world.”

Sam Watson, of Sleaford, said: “I don’t really know what to make of it yet, it’s going to affect a lot of people - he had millions of fans around the world. I really liked ‘Man in the Mirror’ it’s a classic tune.”

Jonathon Hotson from Heckington said: “My favourite Michael Jackson piece is the short film Ghosts, it’s an absolute classic that lasts about 39 minutes. The guy was a genius and I’m sure wherever he is now his moonwalk will be stronger than ever!”
