MORE and more people from all over the Sleaford area are preparing to take the plunge to support a major charity fund-raiser.

There is already considerable interest in the Charity Swimathon, organised annually by the Rotary Club of Sleaford, with local businesses, work colleagues, clubs and groups of friends entering teams to participate.

The Swimathon is taking place at Sleaford Leisure Centre on Friday, February 24, from 7pm top 10pm, and Saturday, February 25, from 8am to 6pm.

Proceeds from the event will be distributed Rotary Club charities, including Sleaford LIVES, the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and, this year, The Alzheimer’s Society.

This year there will be the additional attraction of the ‘Rotary Global Swimathon’ when an attempt will be made to break the Guinness World Record for the highest number of swimmers swimming 100 metres non stop between the hours of 12noon and 1pm (GMT) on the Saturday.

Rotary Clubs throughout the world will be taking part and those in Sleaford will receive some form of recognition for their participation. The world record attempt will be run in strict accordance with the rules laid down by the Guinness Book of Records.

A donation will be made by the Rotary Club of Sleaford to the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.

There are a good number of entries for the Swimathon and the Global Swimathon but the organisers of the Sleaford event would like to see even more people taking part, especially in the world record attempt.

If you would like to take part or enter a team, application and entry forms can be obtained from Rotarian Paula Ireland on 01529 488409.
