Young woman driver dies in hospital after A17 smash

Tuesday 6pm - TRIBUTES have been pouring in on a Facebook site from friends of a young Heckington woman who died after a car crash on Saturday.

Hollie Sturgeon, 18, of Mulberry Walk, Heckington died on Monday afternoon at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

She had been driving a black Ford Fiesta on the A17 Leadenham bypass near Fulbeck when she was in collision with a silver VW Passat and left the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 8.40am on Saturday morning and Miss Sturgeon was initially rushed to Lincoln County Hospital but later transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in a critical condition where she later died.

Over 100 people have paid tribute to Hollie and left messages of condolence for her family.

One comment from a friend, Denise Hall, said: "I had the greatest pleasure of first meeting Hollie around six years ago. I got to know her through her visits to Kerry's Salon where I worked.

"Hollie was the rare kind of person who you loved instantly. Not only was she stunningly beautiful but she was also incredibly and naturally kind, she had a spirit full of fun and she truly lit up the room.

"Hollie was a credit to her family. She was full of smiles and cheeky laughter as she helped me put labels on the products in the beauty room."

She considered herself lucky to have known her.

The driver of the Passatt, a 42-year-old woman from Wisbech and her female passenger, age not known, were also seriously injured and taken to Lincoln County Hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and saw either vehicle before the collision or the collision itself to contact them on 01522 558855.
