A mix up by organisers of a window display competition for Armed Forces Day ended in disappointment.

Staff and helpers at the Age UK shop at the southern end of Southgate entered their window display in the competition after bringing in family wartime mementoes. All windows entered were photographed and put on a Facebook site before judging, but it dawned on shop staff that organisers from NKDC had made a mistake and judged the other Age UK shop window (which had not entered).

The mix up was realised too late and winners had been notified. Photos have now been taken of the correct window and added to the Facebook page and highlighted, said a council spokesperson. So here it is.

In another blow, volunteer staff had decorated the Second Chance charity shop window on Boston Road after saving it from closure in December. However, Eighth Army campaign medals belonging to the present manager’s grandfather have gone missing, thought stolen, from the window, explained her mum Julie Freeborn.
