A series of musical events are coming up at St Andrew’s Church in Heckington.

On Saturday, August 29, at 7pm the church will be hosting an organ recital by its director of music John Lyon.

This annual event will feature a variety of music from original compositions to transcriptions of well known melodies.

Due to the ongoing major restoration of the pipe organ in the church, Mr Lyon will be performing the recital on the church’s temporary organ, which he built himself.

Tickets for the event are available from Chris Cullen on 01529 460272, costing £7.50, including a buffet supper.

St Andrew’s is taking part in the countywide Heritage Open Days weekend in September, when the St Andrew’s Singers, Heckington’s church choir, will be performing ‘Music through the Ages’ on Saturday, September 12, at 6pm.

The concert will feature pieces from across the centuries, reflecting the music that has been sung in the church across its long history. Entry is free, although there will be a retiring collection in aid of the choir music fund.

Then the following day, Sunday, September 13, at 6pm the choir will sing a special choral evensong. The service will feature music and hymns from a variety of periods.
