Sleaford and District Civic Trust has announced the results of its annual awards.

Sleaford and District Civic Trust has announced the results of its annual awards.

The trust has decided to confer an award on the new toilet at St Denys’ Church.

The trust panel felt ‘it was a splendid addition to the resources and facilities of the church and town’. Although no other schemes were singled out for awards, the trust wanted to recognise two projects which have enhanced two former contenders for the Mess of the Year award.

A letter of commendation is to be sent in respect of the refurbishment of the former Blockbusters shop, now Press 2 Play, in Southgate, which the trust believes has been ‘carefully restored’. Another is to be sent to the developer of the former Waggon and Horses, in Eastgate, with the trust pleased to acknowledge that the project has ‘greatly improved the streetscape’.

The Trust’s Mess of the Year Award again goes to the former Pizza Hot (not to be confused with the national chain Pizza Hut) takeaway in Southgate, which remains in ‘a sorry state’. There were also concerns about the derelict condition of Laundon House in Eastgate and Riversdale Clinic in Westgate.

A plaque will be presented to representatives of St Denys Church at the trust’s annual meeting at the Solo Club, Market Place, Sleaford, this evening (Wednesday). The meeting will start at 7.30pm.
