Carol Heslam contacted us to say she and her husband, Brian, have been researching his family tree.

His father, Jarvis Heslam, was the lay preacher at the Methodist chapel in Scredington until his death in 1994.

She said: “My husband’s siblings went to the village primary school and went to the Methodist Chapel and Sunday School too.”

Here is a further image from Mr Martin’s collection of a parade by the Wesleyan Chapel Sunday School from the early 1900s. What would the parade have been for?

It was later known as the Methodist Chapel, where Jarvis Heslam had been lay preacher, but is now closed and converted to a house.

Mrs Heslam also recognised faces in the village school photo from 1949 that we printed too, saying they were family friends from childhood.
