Members of the congregation of St Oswald’s Church in Walcott brought along their family pets for a special outdoor pet service on Sunday.

The service was conducted by assistant curate the Rev Beth Weston and the collection was for the Devon Donkey Sanctuary.

In keeping with the theme of the collection, one of the four legged guests at the service was a donkey - Jack Lynum Eire.

Jack lined up alongside a variety of animals, including dogs, cats and a tortoise.

More than 40 parishioners attended the service and the collection raised £120 for the donkey sanctuary.

The Rev Weston said: “It was a lovely service and the weather was kind to us.”

Parish priest, the Rev Mike Rose, said: “The pet service is a way of showing that all of God’s creatures are valued and the church offers people the opportunity to receive a blessing for their pets and the care of their pets.”
