A lorry was engulfed in flames on the A17 Sleaford bypass on Monday morning after, what the fire service have described as, a mechanical fault. Here we have a series of photos taken of the inferno which created quite a stir on social media as well as affecting traffic.
Fire crews from Sleaford and Billinghay tackled the flames surrounding the cab of the articulated lorry carrying sand which came to a stop near the turn off for Kirkby La Thorpe on the westbound carriageway.
The driver was unhurt but a nearby bus shelter and street lamp were also damaged. This photo was taken by Kevin J. Taylor of Sleaford Photography Group who lives in the village and saw the smoke. He said: “I had just gone out to the dustbin and thought the straw field must be on fire.”
“Then I saw it so I picked up my camera and jumped in the car to go and take a look.”
Mr Taylor manages to get these shots as the fire brigade tackled the flames pouring from the Scania lorry.
