Families pulled out their picnic rugs and enjoyed a community event to enhance their local playing field.

The Picnic in the Park on Saturday, August 22, was held at Wellingore Memorial Hall Field to raise £2,000 to buy three picnic benches for the children’s playground.

Parish councillor Catherine Mills explained: “We have a lovely, attractive park with lovely playground facilities, but we have nowhere for families to sit and enjoy picnics near the playground.”

The event saw stalls, a climbing wall, pony rides, bouncy castle and teddy bear hunt raise around £1,600.

County councillor Marianne Overton has donated an additional £500.

Organisers now aim to raise more money to buy an automated defibrillator for the village.
