The planting ceremony was carried out on open land within sight of where Mr Israel lived in the village.

In attendance were current parish councillors, as well as close friends - former parish council chairman Richard Higgs and wife Margaret and former councillor Pat Banister.

The current council chairman, Coun Jan Palmer began with a short prayer.

She went on to say: “Alun was a man of great integrity and wise counsel – always to be relied upon to offer a clear, concise opinion with a wry sense of humour often included.

“ Very proud of his Welsh heritage, his quiet words of encouragement were often very welcome.

“We know of his love of his wife June and pride in his family and their achievements. Because when all is said and done, Alun was a deep family man and I am sorry that his family cannot be with us today, to witness our love and respect for their father”.

Coun Palmer went on to dedicate the tree and all those present took turns in placing soil for the planting.
