The polls have closed on this momentous referendum on whether the UK remains in the European Union.

All 100 ballot boxes from the 99 polling stations in North Kesteven have arrived at the North Kesteven Centre in North Hykeham and Returning Officer Ian Fytche says the verification process is in full swing, expected to continue until 1am.

A figure for North Kesteven is expected at about 4-5am. These figures will then be fed into a regional centre at Kettering which in turn will be passed on to Manchester for the overall UK result.

Mr Fytche revealed 86,468 NK residents were eligible to vote at the time of the referendum - the highest ever recorded number for the district.

There has been a 90 per cent turnout for postal votes in North Kesteven, says Mr Fytche.

North Kesteven count is split into 8 mini counts which will be added together. Each team has 62 colour coded containers for their area.
