Outgoing chairman Martin Osborne handed over the reins at their annual meeting to Steve Dawson, new chairman of the group which has given out a record £36,000 to local causes this year.

Mr Osborne remarked at the annual meeting: “2016 was a truly great year for Sleaford Round Table. I am proud to be part of a small team of volunteers who have achieved so much and given away a record amount of money.”

The 13 members raised a staggering £37,500 through events, fundraising and campaigns including Sleaford Oktoberfest, the Santa Sleigh, their annual charity ball, campaigns and donations.

In two years the group has installed 14 life-saving defibrillators around the town through its SHOCK Sleaford campaign to get a machine within 500 metres of every resident. Only a couple more are required to achieve this.

The club has also saved enough to replace the Sleaford Community Minibus it runs, as well as donating to Rainbow Flyers Playgroup for autistic children, St John Ambulance, Anthony Nolan, Home-Start Lincolnshire, Round Table Children’s Wish, Royal British Legion, Scouts, amateur dramatics and sports clubs.
