Thousands attended this year’s Sleaford Carnival, organisers reported.

It was the second time the event had been held since its revival.

A new cycling event was among the attractions.

○ Sleaford’s Grade II* listed Bass Maltings suffered a suspected arson attack.

The blaze at the derelict complex was attended by seven fire appliances and an aerial ladder.

Despite the large turnout from the fire service, more water was needed to battle the blaze, so a supply at the back of the building was used.

○ Following a two-day judicial review, the High Court quashed a decision by Lincolnshire County Council to cut £2m from the county’s library service.

Mr Justice Collins pointed to ‘shortcomings’ in how the authority had consulted over the changes.

○ Record-breaking attendance figures were enjoyed at the 147th Heckington Show.

In all, 33,000 people visited the two-day show, with Sunday’s tally being the highest on record for a single day, organisers said.
