Rotary bike appeal for African children

ROTARIANS have successfully sent 19 bicycles over to Africa to benefit local school children.

On last Wednesday, Rotarians Colin Fryer and Graeme Morrice of the Rotary Club of Sleaford Kesteven, took 14 complete bikes, five children’s and five for spares, to the Bikes for Africa distribution base in Hullavington, Oxfordshire. Also delivered were 100 chairs, donated by the Methodist Chapel of Ruskington.

From here the bikes and chairs will be dispatched by volunteers to The Gambia in East Africa, providing much needed school furniture and transportation for children in remote areas and enabling them to attend school.

Rotarian Tony Dixon thanked everyone who donated their unwanted bicycles. There will be another appeal for bikes in the future, and if anyone wants to donate a bicycle, call Graeme Morrice on 01526 830717 or email to arrange collection.
