Second poverty drive

SLEAFORD residents are encouraged to help tackle food poverty this month by taking part in a national drive.

The Million Meal Appeal, a nationwide food drive run by Sainsbury’s and national charity FareShare, will take place this Saturday and Sunday when customers can help make a difference to those living in poverty by donating a long-life product, such as canned or tinned goods, from the Appeal shopping list.

Items are purchased as normal and then placed in the collection box after the checkout, which will then be passed on to over 700 poverty charities and projects in the UK. Last year’s event saw Sleaford shoppers donate enough food for 2,000 meals across the country.

Continuing their support of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the Sainsbury’s Paralympic Torch Experience will see the iconic Torch travel to 400 UK Sainsbury’s stores, and it will be visiting the Sleaford store on Sunday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Visitors to the store will be able to hold the Torch and have their photos taken with it.
