Expect delays during cycleway works

A NEW cycle and pedestrian refuge is being put in place on York Road in Sleaford, at its junction with Lincoln Road, as part of improvements to complete the Sustrans Leasingham to Sleaford Connect2 cycleway.

The works are substantial and will involve removing three trees from the verge in early July, before the junction itself is widened during the school holidays.

Area highways manager Rowan Smith said: “The improvements at the junction will enhance visibility, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road more safely.

“We’re keeping disruption to a minimum by completing these enhancements during the school holidays when traffic is at its lowest. We are replacing the trees as soon as we can.”

No nests have been found in the trees but this will be checked again before they are felled.

Mr Smith added: “I would ask residents and drivers to please bear with us while we make these and other improvements over the summer, between Holdingham and Carre’s Grammar School, to provide a continuous pedestrian and cycleway in and out of the town that people can enjoy and use to the full.

“Please do expect delays, as we will need to close one lane to traffic leaving the estate - avoid the area if you can.”

Bus services will still run as normal over the six week period unless otherwise advertised.
