Two die on county roads in double weekend tragedy
TWO people died and several others were injured in three separate incidents on the A17 and A15 over the weekend.
The first occurred on the A15 London Road at Osbournby at 1.15am on Saturday morning, where a red Nissan Almera had been involved in a collision with a lorry.
Sadly, the driver of the Almera, 73-year-old David Garland from Digby, died at the scene.
His passengers, a 21-year-old man from Lincoln, a 19-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, both from Metheringham, were taken to Boston Pilgrim hospital with serious injuries, but not thought to be life threatening.
The previous day, the A17 was closed from Holdingham roundabout to Swineshead Bridge after a fatal four car collision at 1.50pm.
The cars involved were a white Vauxhall Combo van, a black Fiat Doblo, a heavy goods vehicle and a red Honda Civic.
A 45-year-old Newark man, the driver of the white van, died at the scene and the driver of the HGV, a 51 year-old Lincoln man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and was released on police bail until June 14.
The 25-year-old female driver of the Doblo, from Pontefract, and the 63-year-old Boston man who was driving the Civic were taken to Boston Pilgrim hospital but are not believed to have been seriously injured.
The other incident occurred on the A15 near the Aisby/Culverthorpe/Oasby turn-off on Friday evening where a lorry overturned and landed in a ditch at around 6.18pm. This was believed to be a non-injury incident.
