UPDATE: Large stack of straw bales on fire in Sleaford

7.55pm: The fire service has confirmed that there are approximately 24,000 half tonne straw bales alight.

Crews are using one main jet and three hose reels.

7.20pm: Straw bales are ablaze in Sleaford.

The bales, said to be near Greylees, are well alight as a result of the blaze which was reported at 6.04pm today.

The A15 is closed between A153/A15 roundabout and Silk Willoughby - and the Lincolnshire Road Policing Unit are asking people to avoid the area.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have Tweeted: “We currently have five crews and a water carrier in attendance at a large straw stack fire on the A15 south of Sleaford.

“Currently there are two sleaford crews, Billingborough, Billinghay, Metheringham and water carrier from Holbeach in attendance at the fire.”
