‘Watch’ committee needs volunteers

NEW volunteers are needed to serve on the committee of Sleaford and District Neighbourhood Watch Association.

The association’s annual meeting is to be held on October 3 at the North Kesteven District Council offices on Kesteven Street, starting at 7pm, and key committee posts need to be filled.

A new committee was formed in July 2010 to resurrect the association after a period of stagnation.

Current chairman John Bennett said: “A grant was secured from the Co-operative Membership Community Fund to set up a website, among other things, but with the current financial recession it has been very difficult to generate interest in the association.

“We have seen the result of this recession with the collapse of the Sleaford BID, which will no doubt affect CCTV coverage among other things, which makes Neighbourhood Watch even more important.

“We have a new dedicated Watchline service and anyone who wishes can receive either telephone or email messages.”

When the Sleaford and district association was originally established it was one of the first to be set up in the country.

However, both the chairman and treasurer are stepping down for health reasons and so the committee is in need of new volunteers to come forward.

If you would like to be involved with the Neighbourhood Watch Association and are prepared to serve on the committee, contact either John Bennett on 01529 461106 or at admin@sleafordnhwassoc.info, or Frances Salmon on 01529 306383 or by email at frances.ericsalmon@tiscali.co.uk. The association meets three times a year in addition to the AGM.
