NAVENBY Women’s Institute celebrated its 45th anniversary with a garden party, but due to the poor weather it was taken indoors at the Methodist Church Hall where they hold their regular meetings.
President Gina Newstead said the event was combined with celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year with flags and decorations, silver napkins and tablecloths along with delicious food. The women dressed up in their best hats and fascinators and about 30 past members with several past presidents, secretaries and treasurers turned up including founding president Sheila Freeman.
Mrs Newstead said: “We ate a wonderful birthday cake and it was a really lovely afternoon.”
The thriving, lively group has 54 members with lots of new ones joining including many younger women.
