St Ives 2 Sleaford Town 2

FOUR points on the road in the past week have been an encouraging boost for Sleaford Town, who have moved further away from the foot of the United Counties League Premier Division.
They followed up a vital 3-2 win away at fellow strugglers Blackstones in mid-week with a valuable draw at St Ives on Saturday, against a side going very well in the league.

In fact Town were so close to clinching all three points at St Ives, where the home side left it until three minutes into injury time to equalise and snatch a point when it looked as if the visitors were going home with an unexpected win under their belts.

Town may consider themselves a little unfortunate to concede such a late goal, but they will be more than pleased with a point in a game that could have been well out of their reach by half time had St Ives capitalised on their chances.

The home side's ace striker Scott Fielding was a constant thorn in Sleaford's side and he could have had more than the single goal he did net.

That came shortly after the half hour mark, when Fielding outpaced the entire Town defence before beating keeper Scott to claim his 11th goal of the campaign.

St Ives came close on several other occasions but their finishing let them down.

Although Sleaford were under pressure for long spells in the first half, they did have their moments too, with Mickey Stones turning well in the box and forcing a good save from the home keeper and Jason Sedlan heading over from a Jamie Shaw corner.

But for the opening 45 minutes, Scott was certainly the busier of the two keepers.

A penalty awarded to St Ives shortly after the break could have taken the game away from Town but Scott stopped the spot kick.

Gradually, Sleaford forced their way more into the game and manager Brian Rowland brought on Gavin Bell and Dan Betney for Shaw and Carl Sedlan 15 minutes into the half.

Sleaford equalised through Stones in the 75th minute, the striker latching onto a neat ball from Reece and calmly tucking it away. And Stones struck again from close range six minutes later to edge Town into the lead for the first time.

As the clock ran down Nick Bishop replaced Matt Lunn.
Paul Ward made a desperate clearance off the line in the final minute of normal time but Carl Foreman popped up to rescue St Ives with an injury time strike.

Town: Scott; Jones, Ward, Sidney, Fenton; Lunn (Bishop), C Sedlan (Betney), J Sedlan, Reece; Shaw (Bell), Stones
