KARTING champion Jack Harvey took a hard fought sixth place on his KF1 debut at the weekend in the final of the Winter Series event at the PF International circuit.
The 15 year-old driver from Bassingham had hoped for a strong opening weekend in the top class.
He had no fear about stepping up against some of the top drivers in the UK by setting some of the fastest times in testing but at the beginning of the
weekend he struggled to find grip in what were incredibly tricky conditions and in the two heats he was unable to get a top end result.
For the final, Jack and his team made some major changes to the kart in an attempt to find more grip.
He made a superb start and dived up the inside of the first corner to move up a couple of places.
Two laps later he had fought his way to third place but could not get in touch with the two front men, who had managed to break away from the rest of the field.
Later in the race Jack found the level of grip in his kart was dropping away and a chasing pack finally managed to catch him up. In the space of two laps he was forced back into a battle for sixth place and on the very last lap had dropped to eighth.
However, with a fantastic display of determination he went past two drivers in the final stages to claim sixth place.
Jack said: "It was frustrating for me this weekend as I had been one of the fastest in testing in the dry on Friday but, from the moment we started on Saturday, we were just looking for more grip every time we went out.
"I was pleased with my performance in the final though. The last two laps were really good fun and I proved that I can battle with the guys at the top level and showed that I never give up."
