FORMER Sleaford Wheeler Katie Colclough is riding high after claiming gold and bronze medals at the UCI World Series track meeting at Manchester Velodrome.
The 18-year-old from Frieston was among a host of British medal winners as the cream of the nation's cycling talent demonstrated that the remarkable success at the Olympics was no fluke by winning 14 of the 17 events in Manchester.

Katie raced to gold in the 3,000m women's team pursuit with her 100% Me team-mates Lizzie Armistead and Joanna Rowsell.

In the final the team recorded the world's fourth fastest ever time of 3:26.904, to beat opponents Germany by more than six seconds.

Katie said: "The pursuit is a really intense effort. It is all about keeping it smooth and focussing on your turn on the front."

She picked up her bronze medal in the points race.

Katie added: "We expected to do well in the pursuit but the points race was more of a surprise."

For the points race final she qualified fourth, with five points from the final sprint. In the final Katie finished third behind Olympic Academy team-mates Armistead and Lucy Martin.

Katie also led the field in the scratch race final for some considerable time before finishing out of the medals in that event.

The televised Manchester event was the first of five in the series. Later this month Katie flies to Melbourne, Australia for the next event in the World Series.

As a member of the Olympic Academy, Katie will be training full-time in Manchester through the winter and will then follow a road race programme in Europe during the summer.

Her long term aim is to get into a professional road racing team and she would like to make it to the 2012 London Olympics. But her more immediate targets are the World and European track championships next year.
