AN entertaining game between two evenly-matched sides was settled by a goal three minutes from time, with Josh Schofield completing his hat-trick to give Lincoln Utd A a slender 3-2 victory.
The game was only seven minutes old when Lincoln went in front. A sweeping move down their right saw Josh Langtry free Josh Schofield who strode into the Town penalty area and placed his shot into the bottom corner of Chris Laming’s net.
The game
then settled into a pattern where both sides created and missed chances, until on 24 minutes Town equalised. An attempted shot by Paul Crampton fell at the feet of Ben Elkington, whose cross was met perfectly by Gareth Burton and his header found the back of the net.
Elkington, causing confusion in the Lincoln defence with his mazy runs, nearly set up another Sleaford goal. He crossed to Burton, whose shot skimmed past the post.
After the break Elkington continued to supply opportunities for his colleagues which were wasted as Town pushed for a second.
Sleaford did eventually find the target to take a 2-1 lead when a Ben Thompson effort from an Elkington free-kick was deemed to have gone over the line by the referee.
But United equalised through Josh Schofield, who popped up again in the dying minutes to snatch the trophy from Sleaford with a well-placed header.
