SLEAFORD Town Under-8s took part in a tournament hosted by Fishtoft YFC on Saturday.

Playing six matches on the day, winning four and drawing one, the Sleaford side ended the competition as runners-up in their age-group.

They started well beati
ng Greenbank 2-0, with Malthouse and Sokolovic-Knapper scoring the goals.

In the second game against a newly-formed Billinghay team, Sokolovic-Kanpper and Malthouse were again on the score sheet and Pickwell added another to give Sleaford a 3-0 victory.

League rivals Young Dons proved more difficult, with the Dons' keeper ensuring only one goal by Sokolovic-Knapper separated the teams. Sleaford were fortunate to win 1-0, as a last minute penalty for the Dons hit the post and was cleared.

Playing the host club Fishtoft in their fourth game, Sleaford lost their unbeaten record for the day, going down 1-0 to a deflected shot.

That was followed by a goal-less stalemate with Welton before Town under 8s ended with a good 3-0 victory against Spilsby thanks to two second-half goals by Sokolovic-Knapper and one by Farrow.

Town U8 squad: Malthouse, Farrow, Flynn, Callow, Beckett, Sokolovic-Knapper, Frain, Pickwell.
