Sudbrook Moor are crowned senior champs

A CONVINCING win in their final fixture of the season confirmed Sudbrook Moor as champions of the South Lincolnshire Seniors’ League.

The seniors’ team easily defeated Kirton Holme 5½ - ½ to clinch the title, which Sudbrook had not won for 12 year
s.

In the 10 fixtures played during the course of the campaign, the team won seven, halved won and lost two. Three away victories contributed considerably to the side’s league success, especially as extra points are awarded for away wins.

Title holders Gedney Hill finished second, five points behind Sudbrook.

Against Kirton Holme, Ron Boxell and Ken Crowe won 5 and 4; Pete Armstrong and Ken Jameson won 6 and 4; Graham Buxton and Pete Farmer halved; Ken Marsh and Peter Elliott won 3 and 2; Alfie Kent and David Swaithe won 6 and 5; Maurice Green and Mike Bush won 5 and 4.

Other players who represented the team were: Tony Rose, Paddy Doherty, David Stoneham, Bryan Shelley and Jim Northway.

l In the Junior Tiger championship at Sudbrook Moor, Chris Haynes won the scratch trophy for the third consecutive year.

He recorded a gross 70 to secure his hat-trick of wins in the competition, with Edward Glenn runner-up.

The net championship was won by 13-year-old Kate Ireland, ahead of Kieran Hall in second place.
