ANOTHER successful season has seen Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club finish as the top cycling club in Lincolnshire for the second successive year.
Wheelers' members are delighted with the news that once again they are top of the Lincolnshire Road Racing Association club points league for 2008 to retain the Nev Crane Shield.
The Sleaford club ended the season with 508 points, putting them 54
points clear of Lincoln Wheelers on 454, with third placed Boston Wheelers well back on 324.
Club chairman Malcolm Yates said: "This is a remarkable achievement for the Wheelers to win this accolade for the second year running, beating much bigger clubs from Lincoln, Boston, Alford, Grantham and Scunthorpe.
"It was the result of all round club effort by all the members who contributed to the points, from 14-year-olds George Thompson and Ben Wright and 74-year-old Doug Laidlow to the super fast Jim Boyle and Dave Walker."
Among Sleaford Striders' long list of award winners for 2008, Dave Walker picked up three wins during the season in the LM 25, MM 25 team and team championship events, plus a third place in the championship 25.
Other winners in 2008 included Dennis Owen (MM team and Vet on Standard 2up 15); David Smith (MM team and Vet on Standard 2up 15); Felicity Hart (Mixed team 2up 15); Gavin Pell (Mixed team 2up 15); George Thompson (Juvenile team 2up 15); Ben Wright (Juvenile team 2 up 15); Jim Boyle (Team championship 25); Mark Colclough (Team championship 25); Doug Laidlow (Handicap championship 12 hour).
