Another cancellation sees Town facing fixture congestion

Sleaford Town were again without a game at the weekend, with the weather once more playing havoc with the sporting fixtures across the region.

It means ever growing fixture congestion for Town who still have 22 United Counties League Premier Division games to fit in before the end of the season in 14 weeks.

The team are currently lying in mid-table but have played fewer games than any of the teams around them.

At the start of the New Year, manager Brian Rowland reflected on the team's performance so far at the mid-point in the 2009/10 season.

He said: "The highlights have been our cup runs, particularly the run in the FA Vase competition, where we went further than ever before and were unlucky to lose to Chertsey in the third round.

"The cup runs have not only been good for team confidence, they have also brought in a lot of cash for the club.

"However, on the flip side they have meant that we are left with a lot of league games to fit in before the end of the season, which will see us having to play two games a week most weeks."

Rowland added: "We are doing quite well in the league, lying in mid-table with a lot of games in hand. What we need to do now is recreate our cup form in the league to pick up as many points as we can to try and finish in the top half of the table.

"We have a reasonably strong squad at the moment and we are going to need everyone of that squad in the second half of the season with so many games to play."

With Town's scheduled game against Northampton Spencer this Saturday looking increasingly doubtful as the winter freeze is expected to continue, the fixture congestion looks set to get worse.
