Greg wins despite getting lost

TWO members of the Sleaford Town Runners club, Paul Green and Stephen Brear, travelled to Cleethorpes at the beginning of the month to compete in a 10k event.

Paul finished in 47 minutes 39 seconds, soon to be followed in by Stephen in 48.48.

The following Sunday in the Lincolnshire Athletic Association cross country event at Louth, Iain Bailey finished fifth in the senior men’s 9690m race with a time of 35.17.

The vet men’s category, also run over 9690m, saw John Siddens finish in second place in 36.46, with Greg Southern finishing sixth in 37.54.

The Ropsley Raid 6 and 13-mile multi-terrain races took place near Grantham.

In the six-mile race, Simon England finished second in a time of 43.01, with Michael Baxter finishing on Simon’s shoulder to come third in 43.02.

Times for other Town Runners were: Trevor Brown 51.44, Cathy Taylor 1.01.20, Steph Atherton 1.03.07, Barbara Campbell 1.05.56, Yvonne Fox 1.06.58, Claire Brown 1.13.16, Lisa Harmon 1.13.44, Shaun Louth and Helen Barker both 1.27.51.

The 13-mile event was won by Town Runner Greg Southern, who finished first despite getting lost and adding some extra distance to his race.

Other members of Sleaford Town Runners taking part in this event were: David Taylor 1.50.39, Barry Douce 1.55.18, Alex Hetherington 1.58.25, Paul Freemantle 2.06.26, Dean Barnshaw 2.09.21, Gary Britnell 2.12.11 and Ian Swinscoe 2.16.56, with Vivienne Veasey, who decided to walk the 13-mile route finishing in 3.09.
