Half marathon deadline looms

PREPARATIONS for one of the Sleaford area’s biggest sporting events are well under way.

The annual Sleaford Half Marathon is taking place at RAF Cranwell on Sunday, February 19.

The event is organised by Sleaford Striders Athletics Club and last year attracted a record field of over 700 runners from all over the country. Once again, athletes and fun runners from far and wide are expected to sign up for the 2012 event, with many entries already in.

The testing 13.1 mile route follows mainly rural roads, with only one mile off road and along quality farm tracks. The Sleaford Half Marathon is an ideal event for anyone preparing to take part in the London Marathon.

The entry fee for the half marathon is £13 for all registered club runners and £15 for unattached runners. The race starts and finishes at RAF Cranwell.

The closing date for entries is Saturday, February 4. Runners in the half marathon must be 18 years of age or older. The course is not suitable for wheelchair users and no dogs are permitted.

For less serious runners or those who prefer a shorter distance, there is also a 3k Fun Run. Entries for this event will be taken on the day.

The half marathon starts at 10.30am and the fun run at 11am.
